What do you want to say with your invitation?

Back in 1986 when I first got married, we had very little money.  Actually, I don't know if we were so worried about inviting people to the wedding as much as just getting married.  Oh the bliss of young love. . .my Beloved wrote a lovely poem and I framed it with ivy.  We took it and had it photo copied on off-white parchment paper and even bared no expense and bought matching envelopes.  I am smiling at the memory.

Invitations today are a whole other animal as is much of the ceremony of getting married.  There is an unspoken code of etiquette that a bride feels compelled to adhere too.  It seems that we allow other people's opinions dictate and spend our money.
First of all, this is your wedding, sometimes it's your money buying this wedding.  Sometimes it's Mom and Dad footing the bill, take it from a Mom that just helped her lovely daughter have a gorgeous wedding.  I wanted more than anything for it to be as magical as she has always dreamed, but I didn't want to waste money on frivolous items.  Now believe me, I went to the ends of the earth to try to accommodate all of her dreams but I wanted to give my daughter a great start in life also.  By the way, our gift to our daughter and her new groom was to completely pay off her car.  They were able to start their lives debt free and as far as I know they are still that way today.  Praise God!

So today I am sitting here, I found the invitations that I want for my new wedding.  It's funny, my Beloved and I were walking through Office Max the other day and as usual I wondered back to the clearance items.  There on the shelves sat the most beautiful invitations.  My Beloved loved them!  I was shocked to say the least.  So here is a picture of them, it is a box of 25 invitations, envelopes, response cards and envelopes and seals.  The original price was $39.99, I bought them on clearance for $15.  Since they are black and white I don't have to worry about spending extra for colored ink for the printer.  I'm just gonna find a fabulous font on Word and print them out in black.  BTW I bought 2 boxes and it is still less than the original price for one box!  Time is money!!!! Use it well, shop the sales.
Wow that is alot to say just to ask you, What do you want to say with your invitations?  I look at it this way, some want to impress those that are getting them in the mail.  Others just want people to know when and where.  Honestly, only Mom's and Grandma's actually save the invitations as a keepsake.  So pick out something that fits your budget and your dream!

Side note. . .
I had a friend back in AZ that used to frame the wedding invitation and then put silk flowers, lace and pearls.  It's a great keepsake for the bridal couple.
If you want something truly wonderful to frame, why not buy one or better yet find a friend that does calligraphy and ask them to make you an invitation to frame.
